With age, eyelid skin loses its elasticity and weakens. This results in unsightly loose skin on the upper eyelids and bags under lower eyelids. The surgery that can help resolve the problem is known as blepharoplasty.
Treatment options
There are two methods available for eyelid surgery - traditional surgery or the use of a laser on the lower eyelids. Laser treatment is suitable for clients who do not have too much excess skin, but who have fat deposits on the lower eyelids, commonly referred to as "bags". The suitability of any particular type of treatment must be evaluated by a physician at a non-binding consultation.
In traditional surgery, both excess skin and subcutaneous fat are removed. This gives your eyes a more youthful look and returns happiness to your face.
Before the treatment
Before the treatment, it is necessary to first consult a specialist at our clinic. The doctor will evaluate the suitability of the surgery for the specific client. The client will then be informed about the surgery, post-operative regimen and risks of the treatment. Finally, we will arrange a suitable date for the treatment.
Clients should come to the surgery without make-up. It is also necessary to bring dark glasses with you, because eyes are usually sensitive to daylight immediately after the procedure.
During the treatment
Eyelid surgery is usually performed as an outpatient service under local anaesthesia. It is possible to reshape upper and lower eyelids both at once or separately. When both procedures are performed at once, it takes approximately 1.5 hours; separate reshaping takes around 40 minutes.
Before the surgery, the extent of excess skin that should be removed and line of the incision are measured and marked.
Classic surgical procedure
The surgeon makes an incision on the upper eyelid to ensure the scar will be located in its natural fold. On the lower eyelid, the incision is led just under the lashes. The surgeon removes excess skin and subcutaneous fat. The wound is then closed with a fine continuous thread that ensures the scar will be as small as possible. Sutures are removed after a week.
Laser surgery of the lower eyelids
Eyelid surgery is performed under general anaesthesia. There will be no bleeding or scars. Through operational access via the mucous membrane of the lower eyelid, fat deposits are reduced and the skin is treated with a laser. This perfectly stretches the skin. The small incision in the membrane does not require sutures. After treatment of lower eyelids, clients remain hospitalised for 1 day.
After the treatment
After the procedure, relaxation is recommended, particularly for the eyes - do not watch TV or work with computers for 2 days. The application of cold compresses is recommended. In the first days after treatment, eyes should be protected against sunlight with dark glasses.
As a side effect, there will be some minor bruises and swelling that will disappear completely in 10-14 days. Sutures are removed after a week. After laser surgery of the lower eyelids, the skin remains reddened for 3 weeks and should be moisturized with Vaseline. Make-up can be used from the tenth day after the treatment. Recovery from eyelid surgery takes about a week. Return to sports activities is recommended after approximately one month.
Who can be treated?
The procedure is primarily intended for middle-aged people and older. It is not recommended for clients who take blood thinning medication.
